Improving Prevention of SGBV Against AGYW through Mass Multimedia and Community Mobilisation.

Soul City is an intersectional feminist organisation, working to ensure that girls, young women and gender minorities enjoy substantive equality, with access to resources and opportunities that enable them to live fulfilling lives.

With funding from the What Works II Programme, Soul City is implementing a project that combines mass multimedia components with multi-level community mobilization strategies, to address Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV). This includes addressing IPV and non-partner violence amongst Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), statutory rape, and harmful gender norms that perpetuate and create an enabling environment for the violation of AGYW.

Aligned to the social ecological model, which helps unpack the factors that influences violence, the intervention will address the intersecting and complex interplay between individual, relationship, community, and societal factors. The proposed approach considers the interconnected influences of family, peers, community, and society on behaviour, and aims to educate and challenge the community’s knowledge, attitudes, behaviour, and beliefs around sexual gender-based violence (SGBV), using a combination of Edutainment & Social Mobilisation.
