Claudia Craig

Co Lead for External Engagement and Influencing, CARE International

Claudia is an experienced feminist advocate and strategist who has spent over 10 years working with and influencing decision-makers on foreign and development policy. Currently the Senior Advocacy Adviser on Gender Justice at CARE International UK, Claudia leads CARE’s UK advocacy on women, peace and security, feminist foreign policy, and feminist funding practices.

Previously, Claudia led the International Rescue Committee’s UK advocacy on gendered conflict and humanitarian response and UNICEF UK’s advocacy on ending the preventable deaths of mothers, babies and children. She has also worked for both the UK and Scottish Governments.

In addition to being an experienced advocate, Claudia has academic expertise in gender, peace and security. She holds a First-Class Honours Degree in Law from the University of Aberdeen and a Masters in Gender, Development and Globalisation from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Throughout both degrees Claudia specialised in the role of transitional justice mechanisms in accounting for conflict-related gendered harms, including gender-based violence.

In a personal capacity, Claudia has campaigned for abortion rights in the UK, has appeared on national television, and written for a number of national media outlets on UK abortion rights. In 2018, Claudia’s campaigning contributed to the legalisation of the home-use of early medical abortion pills.
