What Works II has today published a new Practice-Based Learning (PBL) Brief titled: Working with Governments to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).

The What Works to Prevent Violence: Impact at Scale programme (What Works II) has today published a new Practice-Based Learning (PBL) Brief titled: Working with Governments to End Violence Against Women and Children.

What Works II PBL Briefs are authored by experienced implementers who understand the realities of working in the field. The briefs highlight practical lessons for practitioners, showcase best practice, and foster peer learning across programmes working to prevent violence. Each brief in the series distils insights from real-world programme implementation.

This latest PBL Brief consolidates key learning from Grantee and consortium partners of the What Works II programme on working with governments in VAWC prevention programmes. Through a series of interviews and workshops, representatives from six different organisations identified five lessons they consider crucial foundations for effectively working with governments:

  • Lesson 1: Conduct political analysis and develop a strategic approach

  • Lesson 2: Build credibility and legitimacy with the government

  • Lesson 3: Build and nurture relationships with government

  • Lesson 4: Strengthen government buy-in to the programme

  • Lesson 5: Embed continuity and sustainability strategies
